soft focus

I was scrolling through my photos, trying to find inspiration for one of these notions. My first reaction on seeing this one was how lovely with the soft focus and the gentle reflection on the water.

And then I remembered what caused the soft focus, and my heart sank.

This is me flying back to Australia in Jan 2020. This is smoke from all the bushfires covering the ocean as we come in for landing at the airport. (We are well below the cloud cover at this point.)

I have a hard time putting into words how heavy this has all felt. There’s part of me that is just that little bit glad to have had a moment of seeing beauty before recalling sadness.

May we all continue to look for the moments of beauty. While we take action to counteract whatever may follow.
